Granny Shelby Ray, real name Shelbyroe Ray, has been doing a lot of public speaking recently to raise money for women in low income neighborhoods. She has been comparing herself to former first lady Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis by claiming that she too is a professional woman who raised a good family and made an intelligent career in the public eye. Recently, she made a speech to the New York City Science Center in which she compared her professional life to the professional women of the movie industry including Pink Pearl, Holly Hunter, Ann-Margaret, and Cicely Tyson. Apparently the only difference between these women and the first ladies is that they are not professionally famous women who might be able to do whatever they want with their bodies, while she cannot. It appears that Granny Shelby Ray is trying to redefine what it means to be a woman, and by using inappropriate language and acting out scenes that would not be appropriate for a family-friendly movie like Mulan, she may be setting a new standard that can be used by other professional women in the future..
