You've probably seen all the infomercials and videos extolling the virtues of step parenting (stepping up your kids from being nannies to fully-grown adults) and while it can be a good thing in certain situations, for many other situations it can be devastating. For example, one of my stepdaughter's fiances had approached her about getting involved in "rape therapy." After he'd told her how "tough" it was, she asked if he knew anything about "rape therapy." My stepdaughter was mortified that someone would even suggest using violence to solve any problems...but after explaining the difference between "raping" and "sexually abusing" I had to ask, "Is he trying to make me feel like my screaming teenage daughter?" Fortunately, his little "rape therapy" fantasy did not come to pass, but I think he learned something from that episode, because he is now married and has been raising his own children..
