This Charley Chase scene from the fourth season of Orange is the perfect example of how a character can over the top of the show to have him over the top. The show takes a lot of its characters seriously, especially the mothers. Even the most idiotic mother can make some kind of logic out of her situation that makes her seem like the most intelligent character on the planet. So it's no surprise that the writers decided to add a sketch of Charley Chase as a step into the mind of a mother who just wants everything for her kids. While Charley Chase was obviously clueless as to why his mom was so mean and angry with him, at least we can take solace in the fact that she has a lot of insight into the way that men act when they are around their children..
