One of my favorite scenes in Jean M. Auel's The Night Before Christmas is the exchange between Granny and Old Lady before Christmas, when the old woman tells her granddaughter that she's marrying a man called Jean-Michel who is thirty years old, and she just found out he's been smoking marijuana. The old woman then says to the astonished Granny that she has always known Jean-Michel was a liar, but never thought she'd get to know it so soon! Granny then goes on to say how old Jean-Michel is, only to be told by the old woman that he's twenty-three. Auel then goes on to describe how old women get older (something every granny needs to do sometime) and how she feels like Old-Grooley meets the new "older" man she's marrying. All this is fantastic and quite touching as both women find out they're actually related by blood, that their love for each other was never fake but genuine..
