Adhesives are compounds that stick two things together. Most common are polyvinyl acetate (PVA), which is used for home projects. But adhesives have been around for thousands of years. For instance, cave dwellers used bitumen to stick their flint axeheads to wooden spears. Other ancient people made their own glue out of fish skins and other animal products that were boiled in water.
